Meitheal is an old Irish term that describes how neighbours would traditionally come together to assist in the saving of crops or in other tasks.
Meitheal is a diocesan program which many schools in the region take part in. Each year these groups of ten carefully selected students carry out different tasks from school to school but their priority lies in serving the needs of the new cohort of incoming First Year students as they make the transition from primary to secondary school.
Here in Scoil Chríost Rí, Meitheal is a leadership group consisting of 10 of our own incredible 6th Year students. The selected girls attend an intensive but hugely rewarding training course during their summer holidays which equips them with all the skills they need to become inspiring Meitheal leaders and to form an effective Meitheal team in the school.
When the school’s newest students meet the Meitheal leaders on their first day it genuinely makes the transition significantly smoother. The 1st Years are introduced to their new school and the receive constant advice, support and friendship from the Meitheal leaders.
The Meitheal team are as follows -
Brianna Mbeba, Shannon Quigley, Aoife Donoghue
Abi White, Aisling Ramsbottom, Arjeta Kovaci, Lola Marum
Aodha Griffin, Alishia O' Leary, Leah Hardy
