Green Schools is an international environmental education programme, offering students an opportunity to examine environmental issues and apply methods to make a difference in the day-to-day running of their school.
The Green Schools Programme has been running in Scoil Chríost Rí since 2010.
Our Green schools committee is composed of Transition Year students who are interested in making a difference in the school. The committee elect a chairperson, vice- chairperson, P.R.O. and secretary and decide on matters to address.
We have been awarded six flags to date:
- Litter and Waste,
- Energy,
- Water,
- Travel,
- Biodiversity
- Global Citizenship- Litter and Waste.
In May 2022 we were awarded Global Citizenship Litter and Waste School of the year.
We are currently raising awareness in the area of Global Citizenship Energy.
One of our greatest achievements to date is the introduction of refillable water bottles to reduce our use of single use plastic and we aim to be a plastic-free school in the future.
