Scoil Chríost Rí is an inclusive school; students at all levels, with all abilities and needs are supported in a professional and caring manner. Our aim is to enable all students to fulfil their potential both academically and socially, and to take an active part in the life of the school community.
Following enrolment, members of the Additional Educational Needs (AEN) department liaise with primary schools and parents to establish the learning needs of incoming students. Further efforts are made to establish students’ needs by the administration of standardised tests of both ability and attainment. All students are allocated to mixed ability classes; however, the assessments assist in identifying students who may require additional support.
In consultation with parents and students, members of the AEN department carefully plan and co-ordinate support provision while all staff members work closely to provide additional support where required, both within the mainstream classroom and in additional support classes. A team of dedicated and caring special needs assistants (SNA’s) provide support to students with additional care needs.
Students with additional needs may receive support within the classroom, through team teaching, in small groups, or in one-to-one tuition based on students’ individual needs. Interventions draw on evidence-informed practice, and the professional knowledge and experience of teachers; they reflect the priority learning needs of students, as well as building on their strengths and interests. Students who have been granted an Irish exemption, on the basis of language or learning needs, or who do not study a modern foreign language on the same basis, will receive support at times where language classes are normally scheduled.
